Flipping over with his own intent!

When Baby D turned 3.5 months, he flipped tummy to back but it wasn't intentional.
Nevertheless, husband and I were thrilled to see baby D developing and hitting those milestones.
Now at 4.5 months, Derrick can flip back to tummy on his own intent!

Now that he can flip over, we have to be careful of what we put in his crib due to SIDS. He also moves around a lot in his sleep, so I'm constantly checking the baby monitor screen, which really doesn't help my lack of sleep, and plus Derrick still waked up in the middle of the night for his night feedings.
I'm kind of stuck though- he's beginning to hit his head on the crib slats so I want to get bumpers for his crib, but that might increase his chances of SIDS. What to do.... haven't really done anything yet, still looking into it.

Baby D has also figured out to suck on his thumb and his thumb only- before, he would put his fist in his mouth, or couple fingers at a time, but now he knows thumb is the best finger to suck on. Baby D uses Nuk pacifier, but there are times when he'll suck on his thumb only to self-soothe. I know there's a huge debate out there about thumb sucking vs pacifier use, but my philosophy on that is, whatever the baby is comfortable with.

D is also really into books, even though he doesn't know what he's looking at, he'll look at the book and listen carefully when I read to him!

D also enjoys his Daddy and Me time, and it's really endearing to see the two of them together.

So after the 4 month check up, the doctor and I agreed it was time to start supplementing with formula since my supply has been decreasing- we are still at ground zero with that situation.... it's not that D won't take the bottle, he knows the TASTE is different, and he refuses to take it. He'll take expressed breast milk from the bottle, but not formula.... sigh... we will not give up!

On mommy news- I have developed terrible ovulation pains. Ever since I started my period after C-section, which was a MONTH after, (I still can't believe I started my period that soon) every time I start ovulating, I not only feel the pain, I can feel where the egg is going. I have NEVER had ovulation pains, and also, my periods last WAY longer that what they used to. My cycle has changed completely after giving birth.... I had no cramps, no ovulation pains, they only lasted 3 days... now it's totally opposite- major cramps, ovulation pains, and they last 6-7 days... Also, before I gave birth, my periods were heavy and bright red, now it's super light and brownish....
Today while driving, I had extreme ovulation pain, and had to have husband drive me home, and had to take ibuprofen....

Last night, I had EWCM, so I took my OPK and it came out positive, which scared me since two days ago we BDd, and the day after OPK was a + .... which might mean I might be pregnant again.... ^^;

If God blesses us with another baby, we will be happy- and since my MIL and my mom both had children within 15 month span, I believe it's very possible for me to also have another child soon...

I will need extra help, but it'll be nice if D has a sibling :]

Until the next post, keep us in your prayers!

The Four Month Vaccination and Check Up

This time around, baby D did so well- such a trooper; and I also think he knows what "visiting the doctor's office" means. When we were waiting for our pediatrician, he wouldn't stop squealing and screaming and fussing, and every trick he knows, he did.

Anyway, the first set of vaccinations we got, he got so fussy and had such a hard time we had to give him some children's acetaminophen, but husband and I were prepared this time. As soon as he got his shots, he fell asleep- woke up, then we gave him a nice long bath- then fed him, and now he's been napping for 1.5 hours. The area where the shots were administered is not as swollen or red compared to last time.

It's always heartbreaking to hear your child cry for his dear life due to pain- but it's part of parenthood.... as I'm sure there will be more of those moments to come by...

So here are Baby Derrick's measurements:
Weight: 7.17kgs (15.8 lbs)
Length: 67.3cms (26.5in)

According to WHO Growth Chart,

Baby Derrick is in the 95th percentile for length!!

Good news aside, baby D has developed a nasty rash in the folds of his neck under his chin- doc says it's due to yeast infection, from the breast milk...- she first suggested hydrocortisone 1%, so we tried, and nothing seemed to get better, so this time around she suggested lotrimin, and also constant exposure to air. She said it should get better in a week's time, and if it doesn't, we should call in and see her.

We also discussed supplementing with formula, since my milk supply has drastically decreased recently. She still wants me to try to breastfeed until 6 months before weaning him off, and I will be trying my best, so we shall see :] we also discussed getting him started on solids around month5!! So exciting!

Each sunday we have our fundays, and once he starts solids, we can include Baby D more into our fundays :] Here are some of the recent pics of our sunday fundays :]

Oh, and Derrick is officially 4 months old today :]

As for me, I've started a stretch/yoga regime-
Each night, before going to bed, I do leg/back/arm stretches and crunches+situps. I finish it off with doing acupressure hoolahoops. It takes about 30 minutes altogether. When I first started a week ago, I could only do 1 sit-up. Now I'm up to 5! Hooray~

Each week, our house is slowly being filled with Derrick's stuff

I think husband and I like it more than Derrick does :]

Summer Outing #1

Yesterday, Korea GMa, Husband, Baby D and I went out to Downtown Chicago, to check out Taste of Chicago.
It takes place at Millennium/Grant Park each year, and it was our (husband and me) thing to do every year since we started dating.
This would be our third year attending Taste of Chicago, and it was extra special since Baby D and Korea Gma joined us.
We plan on making this one of our annual events :]

The day was sunny and beautiful- but before we left the house, we prepped Baby D with some serious UV protection. We use California Baby Sun Screen- the components within the sun screen is safe for babies since it doesn't get absorbed to their skin, it stays on the surface of the skin superficially, so it doesn't cause any irritation. I was a bit worried to use it on Derrick since it said consult a doctor if using it for a baby younger than 6 months, but no side effects occurred for Derrick at 4 months.
I, on the other hand, only put some on my face; as a result, my arms and neck were pretty red. :]

We took the car, and parked at the Park Garage, and we decided not to use public transportation (Bus and the subway )until Derrick is old enough to walk.
It was Derrick's first outing to Downtown Chicago, so we ended up taking several touristy pictures, but  it was well worth the heat and sun.

Derrick was such a trooper despite the heat, and he enjoyed seeing all the things around him!

After about a 10 minute walk through the park, we made it!

We ended up finding the area designated as 'Family Village' and some wooded area with nice shades from the trees and a grassy place to put a blanket on. It was such a relief from the hot sun, and baby D seemed to enjoy it very much. Sadly, no pictures of that, or the food, since we were all starving and hungry.... :]
After the meal, Gma took Derrick around the wooded area and husband and I had a brief baby-free moment, and it was nice reminiscing the other times we were here before Derrick arrived:]

After eating and relaxing for a bit, we ended the day with the visit to the fountain-

It was such a fun day for all of us, and Baby D slept well for the rest of the day :]
Until the next post, keep us in your prayers!

Fourth of July weekend

It was Independence Day two days ago and the weekend is coming to an end.
Baby Derrick was too frightened of the booms from the fireworks, so we didn't get to see them this year, but we sure did grill it up right :]

What is Derrick up to these days?
He has been copying mommy's face

Even though he hates tummy time, he still does it :]

And he loves his baths

And he LOVES to laugh!

And every sunday after church, we have our sunday fundays!

Until the next post, keep us in your prayers!
